Parihaka Poem

In the last weeks of Term 1, our task was to write a poem on Parihaka, and to present it in the most innovative and imaginative way possible. I chose to weave a mat of flax and then glue my poem on top. The aim of my poem was to put forward to people the terror felt in the time of the raid on Parihaka. I am pleased with the outcome of my poem but next time I will try to manage my time more wisely.

Elspeth's Biography

 Elspeth Grace Morley

Elspeth Grace Morley was born in Salisbury Hospital in England at 6:02 am on the 25th of May, 2000. Her father, David Morley, owns a chiropractic business, while her mother, Corinne Myers-Morley, is the sales-manager of Trilogy, a skin-care company. She has an older brother, Ralph, and a younger brother, Finn. Her name- Elspeth- originates from Scotland. She has grown up with the nickname of Elbby.

In Elspeth’s early years she attended Kingfisher Preschool, and later, Chaffon Grove Pre-school. Elspeth had imaginary friends, whose names were Kitty, Goga, and Nanna. Occasionally she would take them for a walk in the park and push an empty swing, pretending they were inside, while people queued up behind her! As well as this, Elspeth one night cut her brother’s hair, resulting in a very large telling-off! She travelled a lot during her preschool years to places such as France, Spain, America, Fiji, Hong Kong, Singapore, and around England. Elspeth and her family finally settled down in New Zealand in 2006.

They soon settled into life in Eastbourne, a cosy village in Wellington, New Zealand. She first lived in 30 Kotari Road in Days Bay, and later moved to 2 Huia Road. Elspeth currently lives at 49, Rona Street and attends Muritai School. She says she was homesick for England in the first couple of years. In her time at primary school she had six teeth removed, and had a brain scan at age 7 because of an eye complication.

She currently is in Room 22, in Year 8, at Muritai School. Her hobbies and interests are singing, football, listening to music, and photography, and excels in drama, acting, and photography. In her spare time, Elspeth enjoys wrestling her little brother, going shopping for clothes, and eating her favourite food- Teriyaki chicken and beef wraps. Her heroes are Lady Gaga and Steven Gerard, and she also loves One Direction, the band. Elspeth’s ambitions for when she is older include owning her own modeling agency shared with her friend Caela. She would also like to have four kids and live in Covent Garden, London.
